DURHAM – Duke softball head coach
Marissa Young announced the additions of pitcher
Dani Drogemuller and outfielder
Aleyah Terrell to the Blue Devil softball program on Thursday afternoon.
Drogemuller joins the team as a graduate student from the University of Pittsburgh, while Terrell is a sophomore transfer from Boston College.
Drogemuller, a native of Frankfort, Ill., graduated cum laude from Pittsburgh in May with a degree in business administration. During her three-year career with the Panthers, Drogemuller appeared in 71 games, earning 48 starts, and owns a 3.97 ERA in the circle. The right-handed pitcher became the third Panther in program history to record two seasons with 100-plus strikeouts, after collecting 147 in 2022 and 124 in 2023. After an injury cut her freshman year short, Drogemuller bounced back to throw the best season of her career, recording 14 games with seven or more strikeouts, including four games with 10 or more in 2022. She led the Panthers to a 2-1 victory over USC Upstate after striking out a career-high 12 batters in an eight-inning complete game effort. Drogemuller served as a team captain all three years and was named to the All-ACC Academic Team in two consecutive seasons.
"Dani is a fierce competitor and a workhorse in the circle," Young said. "We are excited to add her experienced arm to our pitching staff."
Terrell joins the Blue Devils after playing her freshman season at Boston College. The Greensboro, N.C., native, saw action in 30-of-52 games for the Eagles and posted a .219 batting average with 16 hits, three RBI and four stolen bases. Terrell was also recognized for her efforts in the classroom, earning a spot on the 2023 All-ACC Academic Team.
Prior to Boston College, Terrell was ranked 44th overall in the
Extra Inning Softball Class of 2022 player rankings. She was also named the 4A Conference Player of the Year and Page High School Female Athlete of the Year in 2022.
"Aleyah is also no stranger to the ACC," Young said. "She is a spark plug that will add depth to our outfield and increase our speed on the basepath. We are excited to bring Aleyah back home to North Carolina."
The duo is set to join incoming freshmen
Amiah Burgess and
Madeline Le as newcomers on the Blue Devils roster for the fall campaign.
