DURHAM, N.C. – Senior
Aminah Vega and redshirt junior
Jessica Oakland represented Duke on the
D1Softball All-America teams, earning first and second team honors, respectively, the organization announced Tuesday morning.
The duo picked up the second
D1Softball All-America nods of their careers after Vega was named to the first team and Oakland garnered second team honors while at Minnesota in 2024.
Vega has been the engine to one of the nation's top offenses, leading the Blue Devils in batting average (.462), runs (87), doubles (21), triples (5) and total bases (174) through 60 games this season. The DeBary, Florida, native has rewritten the Duke record books in her final season, setting the career doubles record with 67. She also set the single-season doubles record with her 21st double against Arizona, passing Claire Davidson's mark of 20 in 2024. The 2024 NFCA First Team All-America selection sits second all-time at Duke with 301 career hits and became the program's career home runs leader during the NCAA Super Regional at Arkansas with 55 career long balls. Vega is the only player in program history to garner NFCA All-Region and All-ACC honors in four consecutive seasons.
After missing the opening weekend due to injury, Oakland has started all 55 games at shortstop. The San Jose, California, product is one of three players hitting above .400 this season, closing out the year with a .443 batting average with a career-high 78 hits, 11 doubles and 15 home runs. She sits second on the team with 70 RBI on the year. Oakland was named the NFCA National Player of the Week April 21, following an explosive performance at the plate in one of the final weeks of the regular season. The redshirt junior was also selected to the ACC All-Tournament team after batting 5-for-8 (.625) with four RBI during the two games to lead the offense. She recently earned the third NFCA All-Region recognition of her career and first with the Blue Devils after playing her first two seasons at Minnesota.
