FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Fifth-seeded Arkansas claimed a 14-5 run-rule victory over the twelfth-seeded Blue Devils in game one of the NCAA Fayetteville Super Regional Friday afternoon at Bogle Park.
Senior
Aminah Vega led the offense with her multi-hit outing, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run. With her home run in the top of the first, the senior became the program's all-time home runs leader, passing
Ana Gold's mark of 55. The DeBary, Florida, native now owns 19 homers on the year and has cleared the fence in three straight games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vega quickly put Duke on the board with a solo home run in the top of the first.
- Arkansas answered right back in the home half, using a pair of one-out walks and an infield single to load the bases. Dakota Kennedy knocked in two runs with a base hit through the right side to put the Razorbacks ahead, 2-1.
- Duke regained the lead, 3-2, after redshirt junior Kairi Rodriguez sent a two-run homer straight out of center field before the game entered a four-hour rain delay.
- The Razorbacks came out firing after the weather delay, posting a five-run frame in the bottom of the second. Back-to-back singles and a walk set Tianna Bell up for a grand slam and Kennedy followed with another long ball to give the home team a 7-3 advantage.
- Sophomore Layla Lamar pulled the Blue Devils within three with a solo bast with two outs in the top of the third.Â
- The hosts put up another multi-run inning in the home half of the third, with three runs crossing the plate to give the Razorbacks a 10-4 lead.Â
- Duke scratched across a run in the top of the fourth, with Rodriguez touching home on a fielder's choice.
- The two teams traded scoreless trips to the plate in the bottom of the fourth and top of the fifth, before Arkansas posted four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a run-rule victory. The 14-5 final score was capped by a three-run home run to end the game.
