DURHAM – The 11th-ranked Duke women's lacrosse team is set to travel to Davidson, N.C., to take on the Wildcats Wednesday evening at Richardson Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT
The 11th-ranked Duke women's lacrosse team opened the 2023 season Friday on a high note with a 15-10 victory over Navy at Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils were led by Anna Callahan, who had tied a career-high five points — 2 goals, 3 assists — while Katie DeSimone and Maddie Jenner added three goals each. Goalie Sophia LeRose made 12 saves in the cage. She needs 37 more to reach 300 for her career, a feat only six other Blue Devils have done in program history.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Davidson is 1-0 in the early spring after tallying a 17-13 victory over High Point in the opening weekend. Julianne Carey and Erin Cooke tallied six points each in the season opener, while Riley Cochrane (5), Grace Fahey (4) and Allie Hartnett (4) paced the offense. Goalie Amanda Monahan was named an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America honorable mention and she made 11 saves in cage against the Panthers.
LAST TIME WE MET
Duke and Davidson meet for the 17th time in program history as the Blue Devils own a dominant 16-0 record. In their last meeting, the Blue Devils collected a 20-3 victory in Koskinen Stadium. Duke nearly cleared its bench as 13 Blue Devil registered points, led by Catriona Barry with six points. Maddie Jenner also broke Duke's all-time draw control record in the victory.
WHERE IT ALL STARTED
Head coach Kerstin Kimel started her coaching career at Davidson in 1994 as the program's first and one of the nation's youngest head coaches. The Wildcats played to a 4-8 record in her first and only season at Davidson before becoming the head coach at Duke in 1996. Since then, she has had great success at the helm of the Blue Devils and currently ranks fifth among Division I active coaches.
UP NEXT
Duke will welcome Gardner-Webb to Koskinen Stadium Sunday for a 1 p.m., contest on ACCNX.
