DURHAM – Duke University will serve as the host site for the 2024 ACC Softball Championship and 2024 Rowing Championships, the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced Friday.
Duke will host the softball championship for the first time in program history at Duke Softball Stadium May 8-11 and will partner with North Carolina to host the rowing championships for the second consecutive season at Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, N.C., May 12-13.
The Duke Softball Stadium, which completed construction in August of 2017, has capacity for 500 fans in the stands along with additional lawn seating down the right field line. The stadium includes three indoor batting cages, locker room, team room, athletic training area, conference room and a press box that features separate booths for radio crews, TV crews and working media. Designed by EwingCole and constructed by Romeo Guest and Associates, the stadium features a playing surface of Latitude 36 Bermudagrass and Ephesus LED lighting. The dimensions of the field stretch 190 feet down the lines and 220 feet to center field.
Just down the road in Raleigh, Duke and North Carolina will once again join forces to bring the ACC Rowing Championship to the Triangle. It will mark the second consecutive year the championship will be held at Lake Wheeler and just the fifth time held somewhere other than at Clemson's Lake Hartwell course.
The Blue Devils have hosted the Lake Wheeler Invitational each of the past five seasons, including welcoming 16 teams to the 2023 event. Lake Wheeler Park covers 800 acres – 650 acres of lake and 150 acres of park – and was constructed in 1956 with the aid of the Army Corps of Engineers.
