CAPE COD, Mass. – A pair of Duke baseball players –
Alex Mooney and
Jonathan Santucci – have been named the 2022 Cape Cod League All-Star Game. The game is set for Saturday at Wareham's Spillane Field at 6:05 p.m.
The Cape Cod Baseball League is the most prestigious of the college summer leagues and six Blue Devils began the summer on Cape Cod rosters, including Mooney, a rising sophomore infielder with the Falmouth Commodores, and Santucci, a rising sophomore outfielder and left-handed pitcher with the Harwich Mariners.
Mooney is batting .281 in 33 games for Falmouth, an average that ranks 11th in the CCBL. The infielder from Rochester Hills, Mich., has seven double, a triple, three home runs and has driven in 12. His 13 stolen bases ranks fifth in the league at the All-Star break.
In seven games for Harwich, Santucci is 6-for-24 (.250) with two doubles, a homer and three RBI. On the mound, the two-way standout from Leominster, Mass., has made four starts and pitched to a 2.79 ERA. The lefty has fanned 20 against seven walks in 19.1 innings.
The annual all-star game is a special tradition in the Cape League, and the festivities also include a Home Run Derby. Saturday's game airs live on WCAI and the Cape and Islands NPR stations. It airs on NESN tape-delayed at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday.
