Opponent History
Duke vs. Georgia – Duke trails, 0-2
The two sides are in the same regional for the second consecutive season, after the Bulldogs hosted the Blue Devils in 2021. The two sides played two very tight games last year, with the Bulldogs earning a 1-0 win in the first meeting and a 10-9 decision in the second.
Peyton St. George struck out 10 in the first matchup, while in game two it was the offense that was key, as
Gisele Tapia drove in four runs and Foreman launched a home run.
Duke vs. Liberty – Duke trails, 1-2
The two sides could meet again for the second time this season and fourth time overall, after Liberty scored an 8-3 win on April 20. Foreman had a big game against the Flames, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI, but the rest of the lineup had only two hits. The previous two meetings came back in 2019, when the Blue Devils scored a victory in Mexico, but dropping a decision in Durham.
Duke will meet UMBC for the first time in program history on Friday.
NCAA Championship History
The Blue Devils are 2-2 all-time in the NCAA Championship, after making the program's first appearance last season. The team traveled to Georgia for the regional, winning decisions against UNC Greensboro and Western Kentucky, but dropping two to the host Bulldogs. Despite the .500 record, the Blue Devils have outscored opponents in the NCAA Championship 15-11, dropping only two, one-run decisions.
Scouting The Opponent
Georgia: The Bulldogs emerge from the SEC with a 40-16 record, sporting a top-five win over Alabama on April 2. Sara Mosley is continuing a potential All-American campaign, hitting .430 with 17 home runs and 52 RBI to lead a Bulldogs team that hits the home run ball prolifically, with 101 on the year. Pitching has been up and down for the Bulldogs, but Madison Kerpics has been a team leader in the circle, going 18-9 with a 3.23 ERA (160.1 IP). Head coach Tony Baldwin is set for his first NCAA Championship as a head coach.
Liberty: The Flames capped off another big season, winning the Atlantic Sun and going 23-1 in conference play. Much of that is a result of their balanced offense and defense, with Caroline Hudson leading the way on offense, hitting .316 with 16 home runs and 51 RBI. Emily Kirby and Karlie Keeney are headliners in the circle for Dot Richardson's team, with Kirby holding opposing batters to a .171 average to lead her team.
UMBC: Starting pitchers Courtney Coppersmith and Kya Matter have formed one of the top duos in the nation, with Coppersmith owning an 11-3 record and 0.26 ERA (107.0 IP) and Matter going 15-3 with a 0.98 ERA (107.0 IP). Coppersmith, the national ERA leader, is also an accomplished hitter for this group, hitting .331 with four home runs and 18 RBI. Head coach Chris Kuhlmeyer's group captured their third consecutive America East title, not allowing a run over three games in the tournament.
