CARY, N.C. – Led by senior
Quinn Riley in second place, the Duke men's golf team finds itself atop the leaderboard at the Stitch Intercollegiate through the tournament's first day on Friday.
Play was halted by darkness on Friday with the Blue Devils through 15 holes in the second round. The teams will complete second-round play Saturday beginning at 8 a.m., with the final round to follow.
Riley has two holes to play in the second round as the senior from Raleigh sits at 4-under par to hold solo second place. He opened with a 2-under 70 in Friday's first round and was 2-under par through 16 holes in the second round when play was halted by darkness in the afternoon.
Freshman
Kelly Chinn opened with a 1-under 71 Friday morning and was 2-under in the second round, also through 16 holes, before darkness fell. At 3-under, Chinn is tied for third.
As a team, Duke is 7-under and holds a three-stroke lead over Notre Dame with the second round incomplete. NC State (-3), Georgia Southern (-2) and UNC Greensboro (+4) round out the top five of the 13-team field. NC State's Maximilian Steinlechner is 6-under, two strokes clear of Riley, in first place.
Sophomore
Jimmy Zheng is 1-over par and tied for 17th. After opening with a 1-under 71, Zheng was 2-over through 15 holes in the second round. Freshman
Luke Sample is tied for 23rd at 2-over through 16 holes in the second round, while
Ian Siebers is 7-over and tied for 56th through 15 holes.
Playing individually, freshman
John Peters completed two strong rounds and is 1-under and tied for 10th. He opened with an even-par 72 and carded a 1-under 71 in the second round. Graduate student
Qi wen Wong is 75th at 15-over (78-81), while sophomore
Daniel Uranga is tied for 79th at 20-over through 16 holes in his second round.
