PALM CITY, Fla. – Duke posted a 54-hole total of 835 (-17) to tie for ninth place at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, held at Floridian National Golf Club on March 23-24. The Blue Devils carded rounds of 280-274-281 against a loaded 16-team field that featured nine top-25 programs, while senior
William Love recorded a top-10 individual showing.Â
Love led Duke with a ninth-place result at 202 (-11), highlighted by rounds of 68-66-68. His 54-hole total marked his best of the season and second-best of his career, bolstered by a pair of eagles and a share of the tournament lead in par-5 scoring at 9-under. Love was one of a dozen players in the field to reach double-digits under par.Â
Bryan Kim (T30, 209; -4) and
Ethan Evans (T34, 210; -3) each posted under-par performances, while
Daniel Choi (T68, 218; +5) and
Ollie Mukherjee (T76, 222; +9) rounded out Duke's lineup. As a team, the Blue Devils produced 62 birdies and ranked among the top half of the field in par-5 scoring.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duke opened with a 4-under 280 in round one, positioning itself in the upper half of the leaderboard.Â
- The Blue Devils surged in round two with a 10-under 274, their lowest round of the tournament.Â
- William Love highlighted the second round with a 5-under 66, including a 31 (-5) on the back nine.
- Bryan Kim also registered a second-round 66 (-5), while Ethan Evans carded a 69 (-2) to cap Monday's second round.
- Duke entered the final round inside the top 10 before closing with a 281 (-3).Â
- Love recorded eagles in each of the first two rounds on the par-5, 529-yard 13th hole.
NOTES
- William Love's 202 (-11) is his lowest 54-hole score of the season and second-best of his career, behind the 199 (-17) he posted during his freshman year to win the Dorado Beach Collegiate.
- Love tied for the tournament lead in par-5 scoring (9-under; 4.25 average).
- Bryan Kim totaled 16 birdies across the three rounds, tying for eighth-most in the field.
- Duke tied for seventh in par-5 scoring (4.60 average) and eighth in total birdies (62).
- Three Blue Devils completed the tournament under par (Love, Kim, Evans).
