•
Miela Goodchild has hit 33 three-pointers this season in ACC play. •

Last Meeting...
Three Blue Devils notched double-figure scoring efforts, but 21st-ranked Duke dropped a 78-62 decision to in-state rival North Carolina on Jan. 27.
Duke played the contest without head coach
Kara Lawson due to COVID protocols,
Celeste Taylor (injury) and
Nyah Green.
Seniors
Elizabeth Balogun and
Miela Goodchild each finished the game with a team-high 14 points and freshman
Shayeann Day-Wilson added 10 points to lead the Blue Devil scoring efforts. Day-Wilson also finished the contest with a team-high eight rebounds and four assists.
The opening 10 minutes was back-and-forth as the lead changed hands six times with neither team able to keep the other at bay. Sophomore
Vanessa de Jesus opened the game scoring with a floater in the lane then North Carolina responded with the next six before graduate student
Lexi Gordon's right-wing triple cut the visitor's lead to one. The Blue Devils fought back and built a 16-13 lead midway through the quarter behind
Lee Volker's score off a 2-on-1 break with Goodchild, followed by Balogun's pull up jumper. Duke was in front by three as the first winded down, but a four-point play at the end of the period put the Tar Heels in front heading into the second.
Duke got baskets from Gordon, senior
Onome Akinbode-James and graduate student
Jade Williams, as well as free throw from Goodchild, but the home team was outscored 28-8 in the second period as the Blue Devils got into foul trouble with five players with two fouls.
The Blue Devils faced a 47-26 deficit at the break. Balogun paced the offense with seven points in the first half and Gordon snagged a team-high three rebounds. Five different Duke players combined for the team's five assists in the first half.
De Jesus, Day-Wilson and Gordon combined for all 12 Blue Devil points in the third period. De Jesus got going in the third, scoring six points, while remaining perfect from the floor. Day-Wilson added four to her total to become the first Blue Devil to reach double digits and Gordon also chipped in a bucket. Duke shot just 4-of-16 from the floor though and still trailed by a sizeable margin heading into the final quarter.
Goodchild netted 13 points in the fourth as she drained her final three 3-point attempts and Balogun added seven of her 14 points as the Blue Devils outscored the Tar Heels 24-17 in the quarter. However, the deficit proved too much to overcome as North Carolina claimed the 78-62 win.
Alyssa Ustby led North Carolina with 20 points.
