CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Duke women's basketball team dropped its season finale to crosstown rival North Carolina as the Blue Devils fell, 74 to 46, Sunday afternoon at Carmichael Arena.

Celeste Taylor registered 14 points and freshman
Shayeann Day-Wilson added 11 to lead the scoring efforts for the Blue Devils. Senior
Onome Akinbode-James pulled down a team-high six rebounds and tied Taylor for the team lead with two assists.
Taylor knocked down a three to open the game scoring, but North Carolina registered the next 14 points to surge ahead by 11. Another Taylor triple – this time from the left corner – snapped a nearly seven-minute scoring drought for the Blue Devils then graduate student
Lexi Gordon added a transition basket off Taylor's outlet pass. At the end of one, the Tar Heels held a 16-8 advantage.
Duke (16-12, 7-11) closed the gap to four at the start of the second quarter via back-to-back buckets by Akinbode-James and a pullup jay from Day-Wilson. Senior
Elizabeth Balogun added another field goal for Duke as she followed her shot and scored off an offensive rebound. However, North Carolina closed the half on a 16-2 run and took a 34-16 margin into the locker room.
At the break, Taylor led Duke with six points and five rebounds. The Blue Devils totaled four assists through the first 20 minutes as four players totaled one apiece.
Four Blue Devils combined for the team's 10 third-quarter points. Gordon cashed in a short jumper on a nice feed from Akinbode-James after flashing into the lane prior to Day-Wilson going three-of-four from the charity stripe.
Vanessa de Jesus' finished through contact to halt a three-minute scoring drought and Taylor added three more to her total with a midrange jumper and a free throw, but Duke still faced a sizeable deficit heading into the final period.
Duke produced its highest scoring output of the game in the final period as the Blue Devils outscored North Carolina, 20-18, in the fourth. Goodchild led the way with seven points in the frame, Day-Wilson and Taylor added six and five points, respectively, to reach double-digit scoring and Gordon added a field goal as well.
Alyssa Ustby led North Carolina (23-5, 13-5 ACC) with 15 points.
Game Notes:
- Two players finished the game in double figures for Duke – Taylor (14) and Day-Wilson (11).
- The Blue Devils' 46 points matched their season low while the 30.9 percent shooting was the second lowest of the season.
- Duke had more fastbreak points than North Carolina (8-2).
- The 46 points by the Blue Devils were the fewest scored by Duke in the series against UNC.
