Duke Updates Safety Measures Regarding Athletic Events
In accordance with Duke University policy and local regulations, Duke Athletics has updated its mask mandate policy for fans and spectators.
Effective Monday, August 30th, Duke will require masks/face coverings at all Duke Athletics events for all individuals regardless of vaccination status. This mask mandate applies to all events in all venues – indoors and outdoors – and in all areas associated with game day (e.g. fan zones, premium/hospitality areas, etc.). The Opening Hit
- Duke plays Northwestern and Maryland in the ACC/BIG Cup for the sixth time. The Blue Devils have faced the Wildcats and Maryland every season since 2015 except the 2020 campaign and are 9-1 all-time in the event. The lone loss came against Maryland in 2018.
- The Blue Devils enter the weekend with a 1-1 record after falling to No. 15 Rutgers in the season opener. Duke rebounded with a 1-0 win over Richmond Sunday.
- Northwestern and Maryland enter the weekend undefeated at 2-0 and 1-0, respectively. The Wildcats earned a pair of top-25 wins, beating No. 6 UConn and No. 21 Miami. The Terrapins, after having its first game rained out, defeated Saint Joseph's 2-1 in double overtime.
- Duke senior Leah Crouse is back in Durham after winning bronze with the U22 National Team at the Junior Pan American Championship last weekend.Â
- Northwestern's Bente Baekers registered three goals and two assists on the opening weekend and ranks second nationally in points.

Scouting the Wildcats
- Fourth-ranked Northwestern cruised through its opening weekend, beating No. 6 UConn, 4-0, and No. 21 Miami, 6-2. The Wildcats' 10 goals are the second most scored by a team on the opening weekend.
- Northwestern was led by Bente Baekers' three goals and two assists on 10 shots. Ana Medina Garcia had a goal and two assists. Seven different players scored at least one goal and 10 registered at least one point.
- Jamie Marold anchored the defense in the cage with five saves and two goals allowed. Northwestern's backs allowed just 12 shots for the opening weekend and nine penalty corners.
- The Wildcats will benefit from the return of five players who were donning the U.S. jersey at the Junior Pan American Championships.

Last Time We Met Northwestern            Â
- It was a thrilling matchup the last time the Blue Devils and Wildcats last squared off as Duke used a Leah Crouse goal with two minutes remaining in the second overtime to win 2-1. Hannah Miller scored the other goal for the third-ranked Blue Devils. Duke held an 8-0 advantage on penalty corners.

Scouting Maryland
- Maryland is 1-0 following a 4-3 double overtime win over Saint Joseph's at home last weekend. The Terrapins' opening contest was canceled due to rain.
- Four players scored goals for the Terrapins with Bibi Donraadt netting the winner in the 71st minute. Donraadt also added two assists in the victory.
- Robin Bleekemolen made eight saves in the cage, including two in the first overtime to secure the victory.
- Maryland, like Duke and Northwestern, will have players back from the Junior Pan American Championship in Chile as three Terrapins helped push the U.S. to the bronze medal.

Last Time We Met Maryland    Â
- Margaux Paolino scored the lone goal as No. 3 Duke edged No. 2 Maryland, 1-0, in the 2019 ACC/BIG Cup. The Terrapins held a 9-8 advantage in shots, but staunch defense down the stretch secured the victory for the Blue Devils.

Crouse Returns to Durham with Hardware
- Leah Crouse returned to Durham last Sunday with some new hardware. The senior captain helped lead the U.S. U22 National Team to the bronze medal at the Junior Pan American Championship and the final spot in the 2021 Junior FIH World Cup in December.
- After both teams were unable to score after 80 minutes, the U.S. went into a shootout with Chile. Crouse was picked to take a shot and drew a stroke as the goalie took her down, allowing the U.S. to tie the shootout score, 2-2, and eventually win.

Teammates One Week, Foes the Next
- There will be some very familiar faces to Crouse this weekend as a total of eight players – five from Northwestern and three from Maryland – were on the U.S. U22 roster in Chile.
- Kayla Blas, Alia Marshall, Annabel Skubisz, Lauren Wadas and Maddie Zimmer represented for Northwestern, while Riley Donnelly, Emma Deberdine and Hope Rose donned the red, white and blue for as Terrapins.
