DURHAM – After a clean sweep at the season-opening Elon Opener, the Duke men's and women's cross country teams are back in action as they travel to Cary, N.C. for the Adidas XC Challenge. The No. 23 men's cross country team will start their race at 6 p.m., while the women will follow at 6:25 p.m.
Duke will compete in a field featuring host NC State, Campbell, Davidson (women only), North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, North Carolina (men only), UNC-Greensboro, and Wake Forest.
Both teams are back at the WakeMed Soccer Park course together for the first time since the 2019 season, while the men tackled the course alone in 2020. The Blue Devils will face one ranked team each, facing ACC opponents for the first time this season.

What to Watch For
- Head coach Angela Reckart earned the first two victories of her head coaching career as the men and women took home top honors at the Elon Opener and will now see ACC opponents for the first time this season.
- The Blue Devil men took 11 of the top-13 spots at the Elon Opener and will look to duplicate that success with a smaller lineup in Cary.
- The Blue Devil men were the only unit to take on the WakeMed Soccer Park course last season, with Kovach earning the top finish on Oct. 7, 2020, placing 29th on the 8K course with a time of 25:21.1.
- Men's cross country was named as the No. 23 team in the USTFCCCA Preseason Poll for the second straight time on Tuesday. The men also remained at No. 3 in the southeast region, while the women have jumped from No. 6 to No. 5 in the region.
- The men will be one of two ranked teams in the field, joining No. 15 Wake Forest, while the women's side will feature No. 1 NC State.
- The top two men returning for the second event of the season, Dixon and Kovach, are both coming off personal bests on the 6K course at Elon. Dixon's 18:35.2 was a personal best by 28 seconds, while Kovach set a collegiate best of 18:37.8.
- Frost will be the only Duke freshman in the field on Friday. The Manassas, Va., native finished 39th at the Elon Opener with a time of 15:11.7.
