DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke softball team had another undefeated week, going 3-0 in non-conference action to improve to 15-1 and remain strong in all four national polls.
Duke checked in at No. 13 in both the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll and ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll, maintaining the highest ranking among its ACC opponents. The Blue Devils moved up one spot in D1Softball to No. 17 while staying at No. 20 in Softball America.
The Blue Devils picked up three wins last week, including one on the road at Charlotte and two at home versus NC Central and UConn. Duke outlasted Charlotte in eight innings as senior
Rachel Crabtree hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth and senior
Peyton St. George struck out five of six final batters of the game. Thursday's win over the Eagles was highlighted by junior
Shelby Walters, who threw the program's first no-hitter, and an eight-run fifth inning capped off by a two-run home run from senior
Sydney Bolan to win the game in run-rule fashion.
Duke garnered a 7-0 shutout over the Huskies Sunday as St. George and
Claire Davidson combined for a single-game program record 16 strikeouts with 11 and five, respectively. The Blue Devils plated five runs on two hits in the third, including a two-run double from sophomore
Kamryn Jackson.
The Blue Devils will host Virginia for a four-game conference series this weekend, March 12-14. All games at the Duke Softball Stadium will be available to watch on ACC Network Extra.
