NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Duke shut out Notre Dame, 2-0, behind excellent pitching performances from junior
Jack Carey and sophomore
Marcus Johnson to win the series finale Sunday at Frank Eck Stadium.

Carey made his fifth start of the season and enjoyed his best showing of the year after allowing just one hit and one walk in 6.0 innings of scoreless baseball. The Summit, N.J., native also tallied four strikeouts during his time on the hill.

Johnson made his second relief appearance of the weekend to earn the save. A native of Fontana, Calif., he retired all nine batters he faced with two strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work.

Duke (8-8, 4-5 ACC) got on the board first after scoring a run in each of the first two innings. The Blue Devils had success in the leadoff spot early as junior
Ethan Murray knocked a double to left center on the first pitch of the game and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly to center field by senior
Michael Rothenberg. In the second inning, junior
RJ Schreck sent a solo shot over the right field wall in the first at-bat of the frame to double the Blue Devils' lead.

Notre Dame (9-3, 9-3 ACC) only managed to reach base twice throughout the game following its one hit and one walk. Neither baserunner advanced into scoring position.

The Fighting Irish held the Blue Devils to just four hits but Schreck's team-leading fifth long ball of the season highlighted the Blue Devils' offense.

Duke returns to Durham when it hosts UNC Greensboro on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Jack Coombs Field. Chris Edwards will be on the radio call via TuneIn and GoDuke.com.
