ATLANTA – Six straight points from junior
Joey Baker tied the game with under two minutes remaining in regulation, but freshman
Jaemyn Brakefield's game-winning three-point attempt at the buzzer did not fall and Duke came up short in overtime at Georgia Tech, 81-77.
Freshman center
Mark Williams had his first career 20-point game, going a perfect 9-of-9 from the field while recording seven rebounds and three assists for the Blue Devils (11-10, 9-8 ACC), who drop their second consecutive contest in overtime. Williams' scoring output was matched by sophomore
Wendell Moore Jr., who finished 9-of-19 from the floor for 20 points and eight rebounds. Moore netted 16 points in the first half, tying his career-high for one period, to help put Duke ahead by three heading into the break.
Georgia Tech forward Moses Wright made his presence felt on the interior, going for 29 points with 14 rebounds, including eight offensive boards. Wright added five assists and blocked three shots for the Yellow Jackets (14-8, 10-6 ACC). The guard tandem of Michael DeVoe and Jose Alvarado combined for 25 points, including 12-of-14 from the free throw line, and 11 rebounds.
With Duke down 64-58 with 2:30 left, Baker hit a three-pointer from the wing to cut it to a one-possession game. After a Williams block got the ball back for the Blue Devils, Baker drew contact while attempting a game-tying three and knocked down each of his three free throws to knot it up at 64.
Senior
Jordan Goldwire, who dished out a career-high eight assists on the night, threw a crosscourt pass to Brakefield in the right corner with time winding down, but Brakefield's attempt hit the front of the rim to send the game to an extra five minutes.
Sophomore
Matthew Hurt, who shot 5-of-8 from the field for 12 points, fouled out of the game with 6:14 remaining in the second half.
