GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior
Cole Reznick's school-record swim in the 200 individual medley highlighted Duke's performances on the second day of the 2021 Men's ACC Swimming & Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C on Thursday.
Reznick broke a personal best in the morning preliminaries before his time of 1:44.61 in the evening finals set the program record. He placed 10th in the finals. The record was previously held by former Blue Devil
Judd Howard, 1:44.67 set in 2019.
Between the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle in the morning, Duke saw 11 Blue Devils record career-best times in the morning.
Two Duke swimmers, junior
David Hallaron and freshman
Zach Wassmer, touched in career-best times in the 500 freestyle. Hallaron swam a 4:24.43 in the event to move to third all-time in Duke history. Wassmer registered a 4:29.03 to record his career best.
Reznick led the Blue Devils in the 200 individual medley. In addition to Reznick's school record, sophomore
Nick Viers (1:48.60), sophomore
Nick Talati (1:49.12) and sophomore
Will Tenpas (1:51.20) all sported their career-high times.
Duke recorded five career bests in the 50 freestyle led by sophomore
Charlie Gingrich. Gingrich's 19.91 in the event improved him to seventh on the all-time Duke chart. Junior
Matthew Whelan tied his career-best 20.13 and remained 10th all-time in program history. Other Blue Devils who recorded their personal best times were junior
John Day (20.65), junior
Colson Zucker (20.90) and freshman
Luke Johnson (20.97).
The Blue Devils closed out the day in the 200 freestyle relay. Whelan, Gingrich, Day and Hallaron touched in 1:19.45 to place 10th in the event.
The Blue Devils will compete in the 100 butterfly, 200 individual medley, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 400 medley relay on Friday at the Championships. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. while the evening action will begin at 6 p.m., at the GAC in Greensboro, N.C.
