Scouting North Carolina
- North Carolina enters the weekend with a 7-4 overall record and coming off a 1-1 weekend with an ACC setback to Syracuse, 5-0, and a 6-0 win at Albany. The Tar Heels, ranked ninth, are 3-0 at home this season.
- The Tar Heels sport the nation's second-ranked scoring offense with a 4.27 goals per game average. Erin Matson headlines the team with 3.45 points per game to lead the ACC and rank second nationally.
- On the defensive side of the field, North Carolina is giving up 1.19 goals per game to rank 43rd nationally. Prior to the five goals allowed at Syracuse, the Tar Heels had allowed 16 goals in nine games. In goal, Abigail Taylor has started all 11 games and sports a 1.83 goals against average and a .541 save percentage.

Series History  Â
- Duke and North Carolina are meeting for the 96th time and for the fourth time in the past two seasons. The Tar Heels hold a commanding 81-13-1 lead in the series and have won six consecutive. Duke's last victory was a 3-2 triumph in Durham in 2017. The Blue Devils last defeated North Carolina in Chapel Hill in a shootout in 2013.

Last Time We Met         Â
- Duke and North Carolina played a thriller in April with the Tar Heels edging the Blue Devils 4-3 in Chapel Hill. Duke led 2-1 at halftime before the Tar Heels scored twice to regain the lead. A goal in the 39th minute by Duke tied and forced overtime only for Bryn Boylan scoring on a penalty stroke with 2:56 left in the second overtime.
- In the fall, Duke lost 4-0 in the first matchup in Durham and 5-4 in overtime in Chapel Hill. Fifteen of the 16 players w ho saw action last season against the Tar Heels are back in Blue Devil uniforms.
- In three games, Piper Hampsch made a total of 27 saves, including an incredible 19 in the spring 2021 contest.

Scouting the Monarchs
- Old Dominion comes in at No. 17 in the national rankings with an 8-2 overall record. The Monarchs' two losses are against then-No. 17 Delaware and No. 16 Connecticut. Six of their eight wins are by a single goal. Old Dominion is 4-1 away from home this season.
- Marlon De Bruijne is the top scorer with 10 goals, over one third of the team's tallies for the year, and 24 points overall. Delphine Le Jeune has five goals and four assists as the Monarchs average just under three goals per game.
- Defensively, Old Dominion has only given up 34 corners in the 10 games. It is allowing 1.70 goals per game on nine shots per game. In the cage, Cam MacGillivray sports a 1.57 goals against average and a .729 save percentage. She is averaging just over four saves per game.

- The Blue Devils and Monarchs square off for the 45th time in the programs' histories. Duke has had the better of the series recently, winning seven straight, but it is the Monarchs with the 24-20 overall lead.
- Old Dominion last beat the Blue Devils in 2012, sweeping a two-game set against Duke that season.

- Leah Crouse scored in the 29th minute to lift Duke to a 1-0 win over Old Dominion in Jack Katz Stadium. The Blue Devils outshot the Monarchs 12-3 in the contest and had the lone two penalty corners.
- In goal, Sammi Steele made two saves to record the shutout.

About the Blue Devils
- Duke is 4-7 overall, 0-3 against ACC foes and ranked 22nd in the most recent NFHCA poll. The Blue Devils lost a heartbreaker in double overtime last Friday at Virginia before suffering a setback at No. 12 Liberty. All seven of Duke's losses have come against top 15 teams.
- Duke is averaging 9.2 shots per game and scoring 1.36 goals per game. Leah Crouse and Lexi Davidson are the leaders on the stat sheet with eight points apiece. All three of Davidson's goals have been by penalty stroke. Rookie Logan Clouser and MaryKate Neff both have six points.
- Defensively, Duke is allowing 12.8 shots per game and has a 2.21 goals against average after allowing five against Liberty. The Blue Devils have given up 67 penalty corners, but opponents have only scored directly from a corner eight times.
- Hampsch has started every game and leads the ACC with a 5.00 saves per game average. She owns a .714 save percentage and a 2.21 goals against average. Grace Brightbill has come off the bench three times. She has three goals allowed and nine saves in her 80 minutes of action.Â

Penalty Corner Defense
- Duke's penalty corner defense has been solid this season as the Blue Devils have eight goals directly off a corner. Duke gave up a ninth after an initial save from Hampsch on the direct shot off the penalty corner. Overall, Duke opponents have garnered 67 corners in 11 games.
- Most recently, Virginia and Liberty won five and six penalty corners, respectively, and both scored twice.

Penalty Corner Offense
- Three of Duke's 15 goals this season have come from penalty corners. The Blue Devils have earned 48 corners this season. Duke's first off the restart was at Princeton to seal the victory over the Tigers. The Blue Devils' lone goal against Wake Forest was from a redirect on a corner, while MaryKate Neff scored straightaway for the game winner at James Madison.
- Duke won a season-high nine corners at James Madison and at Virginia and is averaging just under five per game.

Early Bird Gets the Worm
- Duke has found itself in early holes in a few of its setbacks this season. The Blue Devils are being outscored 10-1 in the opening 15 minutes with nine of those coming in the first 10 minutes. Duke is 1-7 when the opponent scores first and 3-0 when the Blue Devils notch the first tally of the contest.
- Duke is being outshot 46-18 in the opening stanza, but holds a 30-18 edge in the second frame.

Leah Passes the Mid Century Mark
- With three points at William & Mary last Sunday, senior Leah Crouse became the 41st Blue Devil to register 50 career points. Crouse has 52 points from 18 goals and 16 assists to sit in 39th place on the Duke career chart. She registered 39 points her first two seasons, but missed the second half of the 2020-21 campaign to injury.Â
In Common
- Â Duke shares four common opponents overall with its two weekend opponents. Princeton is the lone common foe for the Blue Devils and Tar Heels as both posted victories over the Tigers. Duke and ODU have three shared competitors in JMU, Virginia and Richmond.Â
Challenging Schedule Remains
- The Blue Devils have a challenging slate remaining with four top 25 teams on tap. After a pair of top-20 games this weekend, two of the team's final three games are against top 15 teams.
- All seven of the ACC teams are ranked in the top 25 with six landing in the top 15.
