Josh Romine earned All-ACC honors to pace the Duke cross country program at the 2021 ACC Cross Country Championships, hosted by Notre Dame at the Burke Golf Course.
The Blue Devil men finished seventh among the field of 15 teams with 161 points, while the women finished ninth with 247.
"I was proud of our three All-ACC performances on the individual side of things. From a team standpoint, however, I think we wanted more from each side," said head coach
Angela Reckart. "We let the championships be a little bit bigger than they needed to be and kind of pulled ourselves out of it. I'm confident that we will be able to learn from this, bounce back and be ready to go again in two weeks at NCAA Regionals"
In the women's 6K race that got the morning started, Reinhart finished first for the Blue Devils at the ACC Championships for the fifth consecutive year. The Lexington, Ky., native clocked in at 20:45.1 to take 14th overall, garnering all-conference honors for the fourth consecutive season. Tomkinson finished just two spots behind in 16th with a time of 20:46.2 to earn her first all-ACC honor.
Rounding out the top five for Duke was senior
Clara Savchik, freshman
Katie Hamilton and senior
Elizabeth Reneau. Savchik crossed the finish line in 65th (21:38.6), with Hamilton taking 89th (22:20.01) and Reneau 101st (22:39.8).
Graduate student
Josh Romine earned the top spot among the Blue Devil men, finishing 21st overall at 24:16.5. After sitting at 30th with at the 6K split, Romine finished strong and jumped up nine spots over the final two kilometers to earn his first career All-ACC selection.
Graduate student
Nick Dahl wasn't too far behind, checking in at 24:21.8 as the second-fastest Duke runner. The Philadelphia, Pa., native consistently moved up the boards throughout the race, jumping five, five and four runners across each split, to finish in 27th.
Juniors
Sam Rivera and
Owen MacKenzie, along with graduate students
Michael Ungvarsky and
CJ Ambrosio were the other Duke runners to finish in the top-50. Rivera and MacKenzie finished back-to-back in 38th (24:28.2) and 39th (24:28.5), with Ungvarsky finishing 41st with a time of 24:32.3 and Ambrosio taking 46th at 24:36.2.
Postseason action will continue for the Blue Devils, as both teams will be back in action on Nov. 12 at NCAA Southeast Regional, hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
