THE OPENING TIP
- Long-standing rivals Duke and Clemson square off Saturday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium at 12 p.m. ET, each looking to find a groove in the heart of ACC season.
- The game tips at 12 p.m. ET on ESPN2 with Doug Sherman and Cory Alexander on the call. On the radio, David Shumate and John Roth have the call on the Blue Devil Sports Network from Learfield IMG College (96.5FM & 610AM in Durham).
- Saturday marks the 144th meeting in the series that dates back to the 1925-26 season, with the Blue Devils leading 111-32. Duke has won 18 straight in Durham and leads the series at home 63-4.
- Sophomore Matthew Hurt -- the ACC's second-leading scorer overall (19.2) and leader in conference play (19.3) -- is the nation's only player to have scored 12+ points, shot better than .400 from the field on 5+ made field goals and have 6+ rebounds in each of his team's games this season.
- Hurt is also third in the ACC in rebounding (8.2), sixth in field goal percentage (.536) and third in most made three-pointers per game (2.5) -- the only player ranked in the ACC's top six in each.
- In ACC play, freshman DJ Steward is 12th in scoring (14.7), 15th in field goal percentage (.427), fourth in free throw percentage (.870) and 15th in minutes (33.8). He leads all ACC freshmen in each category.
- Senior Jordan Goldwire, who is coming off a career-high-tying seven assists versus Georgia Tech, leads the ACC in assist/turnover ratio (+2.80), while ranking second in steals (2.5) and eighth in assists (3.8). He has 25 assists and five turnovers over the last six games.
- Only three times in at least the last decade has a power conference player had 15+ points, 15+ rebounds, 5+ assists and 4+ blocked shots in a game -- freshman Jalen Johnson has two of those three performances (vs. Coppin State; at Pitt).
- Johnson is averaging 13.3 points and shooting .571 (20-of-35) over the last four games since returning from a foot injury.
- Sophomore Wendell Moore Jr., is averaging 10.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and shooting .412 from the field over the last six games after respective averages of 3.8, 2.8 and .219 over the first five.
- Following Monday's game at Miami (7 p.m., ESPN), Duke's final five home games of the regular season come in the next seven contests.
DUKE VS. CLEMSON
Duke and Clemson are meeting for the 144th time in a series that dates to the 1925-26 season, with the Blue Devils leading 111-32 … In Durham, the Blue Devils lead the series 63-4 (60-4 at Cameron Indoor) and have won 18 consecutive home games in the series … Duke's four-game winning streak in the series was snapped last season at Littlejohn Coliseum when Aamir Simms scored 25 points with nine rebounds in Clemson's 79-72 win on January 14 … Coach K achieved a pair of his milestone victories over Clemson -- No. 100 overall came February 24, 1982 in triple overtime, 73-72, and No. 600 at Duke came January 3, 2004, 73-54.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Clemson is 10-4 overall and 4-4 in the ACC. The Tigers snapped a three-game skid with a 54-50 win over Louisville on Wednesday … Preseason All-ACC pick Aamir Simms leads the Tigers in scoring (12.0) and rebounding (5.9) … Clemson owns the ACC's second-best scoring defense, yielding just 62.4 points per contest … The Tigers have marquee non-conference wins this season over Purdue and Alabama, and handed Florida State its only ACC loss on December 29.
ON THIS DATE
Duke is 24-8 all-time when playing on January 30, including a 14-2 record in home games (10-2 at Cameron Indoor Stadium) … Duke is 14-2 in ACC games on this date … Duke last played on this date in 2017, an 84-74 win at Notre Dame.
SO GOOD IT HURTS
Matthew Hurt added 25 pounds to his frame in the offseason, and the bulked-up Hurt is second in the ACC in scoring (49th nationally) at 19.2 points per game … Hurt leads the ACC in conference-only scoring at 19.3 points … Already named ACC Player of the Week and Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week once this season, Hurt has nearly doubled his per-game scoring average from last season (9.74 to 19.20), which is the ACC's third-largest scoring improvement from last year … The Rochester, Minn., native is also third in the ACC in rebounding (8.2), sixth in field goal percentage (.536) and third in most made three-pointers per game (2.5) -- the only player ranked in the ACC's top six in each category … He is the nation's only player to have scored 12+ points, shot better than .400 from the field on 5+ made field goal and have 6+ rebounds in each of his team's games this season … Three of his four career double-doubles have come in this season's first 10 games, including 21 and 13 vs. Michigan State, 17 and 11 vs. Boston College and 20 and 11 at Virginia Tech … He is one of the final 10 candidates for the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award.
STEWARD LEADS ALL FROSH IN ACC SCORING
Freshman
DJ Steward, already twice named ACC Freshman of the Week this season, is Duke's second leading scorer at 13.6 points, while averaging 4.6 rebounds and shooting .423 from the field and leading the team in free throw percentage (.867) … In ACC play, Steward ranks 12th in the conference in scoring (14.7), 15th in field goal percentage (.427), fourth in free throw percentage (.870) and 15th in minutes (33.8). He leads all ACC freshmen in each category … The Chicago native is coming off a 19-point, five-rebound, three-assist effort against Georgia Tech, and is five games removed from his ACC-career-high 21 points versus Wake Forest … Steward has hit at least one three-pointer in eight consecutive games and carries a streak of 12 straight made free throws into the Clemson game.

Duke has posted an all-time record of 912-165 (.847) at Cameron Indoor, including 554-70 (.888) under Coach K … Duke is 255-59 (.812) in ACC regular-season games at Cameron Indoor in the Coach K era ...
