DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men's and women's cross country teams will conclude the regular season on Friday, Oct. 16, when both squads compete at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational in Earlysville, Va.
The women's 5-kilometer race is slated to begin at 4:15 p.m. EST, before the men run their 8K at 5 p.m. For the first time this season, spectators will be in attendance at a Duke race, as up to four family members/guests per each competing student-athlete are permitted. Photo ID will be required for entry to Panorama Farms.
12 Blue Devils will be lining up in the women's race, led by senior
Michaela Reinhart, who has paced Duke in each of her three previous meets dating back to last season. At the Virginia Tech Invitational on September 25, Reinhart finished sixth in the field with a 6K time of 21:03.4 to help the squad place second in the team standings. Sophomore
Samantha Schadler also looks to build off of a strong performance at Virginia Tech, where her PR time of 21:27.3 was good for ninth overall and third among Duke runners.
The last time the Duke women competed in a 5K race came at the Great American XC Festival in October of 2019, when current senior and team captain
Helen Williams clocked a PR time of 17:53.8 to place fourth overall.
On the men's side, senior
CJ Ambrosio aims to earn another top-10 finish after doing so in four of his past seven races. The 2019 All-Southeast Region honoree kicked off his senior campaign with a sixth-place showing at the Virginia Tech Invitational, where he led the Blue Devils with a time of 25:05.0. Sophomore
Zach Kinne, who earned his highest placement in an 8K meet in his Duke career by coming in at ninth at Virginia Tech, will also be competing on Friday.
Junior
Joe Cullen and senior
Josh Romine will both be making their season debut for the Blue Devils. Cullen ran in several 8K's last season, highlighted by a PR time of 25:00.2 that placed him seventh overall at the Great American XC Festival. Romine's last appearance in a cross country event came at the Southeast Region Championships in November of 2019, when he ended his season with a 10K time of 30:56.6 to finish 36th in a field of 250 runners. Freshman
Ben Armentrout is slated to make his Duke debut at Panorama Farms.
Friday's competition will be the last of a six-team, intraconference series that features ACC programs in North Carolina and Virginia. After the race, the Blue Devils will gear up for the ACC Cross Country Championships, which are planned for Friday, Oct. 30 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
