DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke track & field program is set to compete at the 2019 ACC Indoor Championships Feb. 21-23 in Blacksburg, Va.
Setting the Scene
• The Blue Devils will travel to Blacksburg, Va., to compete in the 2019 ACC Indoor Championships at the Rector Field House on the campus of Virginia Tech.
• At the 2018 championship meet, the Duke women finished tied for sixth in the team standings with 48 points while the men posted a 10th-place finish with 25 points.
• Friday and Saturday's portion of the meet will feature coverage on ACC Network Extra. Calling the action will be former Olympic decathlon gold medalist Dan O'Brien (analyst), ESPN announcer Shawn Kenney (play-by-play) and sideline reporter Hanna Yates.
Among the Best in the ACC
• The Blue Devils boast several student-athletes who rank among the best in the ACC and in the country.
• For the women, four individuals and two relays are in the top 10 of the conference while the men feature one individual atop the conference and a relay that ranks third in the ACC.
Top Performances in the 800m
• Matt Wisner was named the ACC Male Performer of the Week following his record-breaking performance at the Camel City Invitational earlier in February.
• Wisner clocked a school-record time in the Elite 800m with a third-place finish of 1:49.22. With the NCAA flat track conversion, Wisner's converted time was 1:47.68.
• Wisner continues to lead the ACC and ranks ninth nationally and will also be a member of the men's distance medley relay (DMR) that ranks third in the conference.
• Brittany Aveni posted the seventh-best time in the ACC at the Tiger Paw Invite as she finished second in 2:08.58.
• Aveni is slated to also run a leg of the 4x400m relay.
Relay Squads Shining
• Duke has three relay teams that rank in the conference and will look to continue their success in Blacksburg.
• Both the men's and women's distance medley relays (DMR) rank third in the conference.
• Kim Hallowes, Lauren Hoffman, Liz Lansing and Michaela Reinhart will compete for the women while Charles Cooper, Miles Mingo, Nick Cox and Matt Wisner will take the track for the men.
• The women clocked in their best time of the season of 11:15.14 at the JDL DMR Invitational last weekend while the men's second-place performance of 9:41.88 at the Armory Collegiate in New York is their best this season.
Pole Vault Specialists Soar
• Laura Marty posted the third-best clearance in Duke indoor history at the Camel City Invite with a mark of 14-1.25 (4.30) and ranks fourth in the conference.
• Rivka Arbiv, Nati Sheppard and Chesney Ward will compete alongside Marty.
• Esteban Suarez and Cole Rowan will represent the Blue Devil men.
• Suarez posted a personal-best clearance of 16-6.75 (5.05) at the Virginia Tech Challenge last weekend while Rowan cleared a personal-best height of 15-7.00 (4.75) at the same meet.
Pentathlon Performance
• Erin Marsh competed in the pentathlon at the Armory Collegiate and posted the third-best point total in Duke history with 3,823 points for a second-place finish.
• Her pentathlon performance ranks second in the ACC.
• Marsh posted a personal best in both the high jump and long jump and placed first in the 60m hurdles and high jump.
Panton's Triple Jump Success
• Domonique Panton has been dominant in the triple jump this season, posting top-10 performances in each meet she's competed in.
• Panton's mark of 41-7.00 (12.67) is the third-best mark in the ACC currently as she owns the school-record.
