DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team (12-15, 5-9 ACC) welcomes No. 2 Pitt (25-1, 14-0) to Cameron Indoor Stadium Saturday, Nov. 16 for a 1 p.m., contest on ACCNX. Duke will be honoring its four seniors prior to the match.
DIGS FOR DOLLARS CAMPAIGN A SUCCESS
The Duke volleyball team, in partner with the Duke Cancer Institute's Teen and Young Adult Oncology Program, is excited to announce the Digs for Dollars campaign.
On November 7th and November 10th, the volleyball team dedicated its games against North Carolina and NC State to raising awareness and support for the DCI program.
With everyone's support, Duke volleyball and the DCI have raised $5,560 to date.
In February 2019, former Duke volleyball player
Jessi Bartholomew ('19) was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma shortly after finishing her senior season. She recently completed six months of chemotherapy as well as two weeks of radiation and is currently in remission.
Throughout her treatment, the support from Duke Athletics and Duke Cancer Institute was overwhelming for Jessi, her family and friends. Digs for Dollars weekend is an awesome opportunity for you to show your support and raise awareness for other patients like Jessi who are going through tough times.
LAST TIME OUT
Despite dropping the first two sets, the Duke volleyball team came out victorious on Sunday afternoon by outlasting NC State 3-2 (22-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 15-7) in a five-set thriller in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Boasted by four players in double-digit kills, Duke was able to get the victory and was led by graduate student
Lauren Cline with 20 kills and zero errors to hit a whopping .526 for the match. Cline's 20-kill performance allows her to be just the second Blue Devil with 20+ kills this season while rookie
Gracie Johnson added 16 kills herself.
Payton Schwantz and
Samantha Amos contributed with 11 kills each to help the Blue Devils hit .230 for the match. Setters
Sarah Nelson and
Camille Nazor dished 22 and 25 assists, respectively.
Defensively, libero
Mackenzie Cole added a season-high 28 digs followed behind by Schwantz with 23 to limit the Wolfpack to a .173 hitting clip for the match. Duke was also unstoppable at the net with 38 total blocks (19.0 total team blocks) to NC State 16 and was led by freshman
Lizzie Fleming with 13 and Cline with nine.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Pitt has carried its 2018 ACC dominance into 2019 and is 25-1 overall, 14-0 in the conference and is ranked No. 2 in the nation. The Panthers' lone loss this season came to then No. 4 Penn State in five sets.
The Panthers sit atop the ACC leaderboard in eight categories (hitting percentage - .277 , assists - 1,247, kills - 1,343, service aces - 140, opponent hitting percentage - .145, opponent assists - 928, opponent kills - 968 and opponent service aces - 78). Offensively, the Panthers are led by Kayla Lund (279 kills) while setter Lexis Akeo has dished 852 assists, which ranks fourth in the ACC.
No. 2 Pitt clinched at least a share of the ACC Championship for the third consecutive season Sunday afternoon on Senior Day at Fitzgerald Field House. The Panthers topped Clemson in four sets (19-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-22), and with Miami's five-set win over second-place Notre Dame, Pitt secured at least a share of the 2019 title.

Blocktober might have come to an end, but the block party is still rockin'.
Duke is currently ranked fourth in the ACC with 279.5 blocks and a 2.59 block-per-set average and is led by sophomore

The Raleigh, N.C., native amassed 40 kills in three games to help spark Duke's 2-1 weekend at the Hofstra Invitational in September. In the victory over the No. 14 Ducks, Owokoniran tallied 10 kills before her 14-kill performance against St. John's Saturday. The Raleigh, N.C., native rounded out her solid weekend with 16 kills and just five attack errors in Duke's win over Hofstra.
