DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke athletic department placed fifth nationally in the Best in College Sports award rankings for 2017-18 by CBS Sports.
Duke led all ACC schools with 445.50 points and finished behind Ohio State (510.50), Alabama (492.25), Oklahoma (477.50) and Michigan (453.00). The top 10 also included sixth-place Notre Dame (439.00), Clemson (428.00), Florida State (422.50), Stanford (419.00) and Georgia (416.25).
The scoring system utilized by CBS Sports rates every FBS institution in three sports – football, men's basketball and women's basketball – along with two “wild card” programs among the school's most successful spectator sports including baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, gymnastics, lacrosse, hockey and wrestling. The weighted formula puts 2.5 times as much emphasis on football compared to women's basketball and the "wild cards" while men's basketball is worth twice as many points.
Duke received its point totals from football (62.50), men's basketball (146.00), women's basketball (64.00), men's lacrosse (90.00) and women's soccer (83.00).
