DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men's soccer team controlled the run of play against Louisville on Friday, Sept. 26, but had to wait until the 86th minute to break through at Koskinen Stadium. A penalty kick by
Trevor Burns proved to be the late game-winner, as the Blue Devils (5-0-3, 2-01 ACC) finished off a 1-0 win.
Duke finished the match with a 66-34 edge in possession and outshot the visitors, 21-5, including a 9-1 edge in shots on goal. Burns scored his first career goal to help Duke extend its regular-season unbeaten streak at home to 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Aridon Racaj opened the game's action, with his right-footed volley forcing a diving stop by the Louisville goalkeeper in the early moments of the match.
- The Cardinals' first scoring opportunity in the 16th minute, but their shot sailed wide right. Ulfur Bjornsson found the ball at his feet inside the 18-yard box in the 23rd minute, but his left-footed attempt just missed the frame.
- Duke finished the first half with an advantage in shots (7-2) and forced four saves by the Cardinals, but the teams remained knotted at 0-0 entering the halftime break.
- The Blue Devils continued to apply pressure to the Louisville defense, maintaining an advantage in shots (12-3) and shots on goal (6-0), as the clock ticked under 20 minutes remaining.
- Duke broke through in the 86th minute, after Alessandro Arlotti drew a penalty and Trevor Burns converted from the spot.
- Louisville tested Duke goalkeeper Eryk Dymora, as he made his first save, a diving stop in the 88th minute, but Duke held strong in the closing moments to finish off the 1-0 victory.

- Duke edged Louisville in multiple statistical categories, including total shots (21-5), shots on goal (9-1), corner kicks (10-0) and possession (66-34).
- Trevor Burns scored the first goal of his career, converting from the penalty spot in the 86th minute.
- Eryk Dymora logged his third shutout of his season and now has contributed to four clean sheets, after earning the win while sharing the shutout against Howard on Sept. 23.
- Dating back to last season, Duke has emerged unbeaten in 11 consecutive regular-season matches at Koskinen Stadium. In that span, Duke is 9-0-2.
