HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duke started the match with an early push forward but failed to create a scoring chance. Akron opening the scoring just over 10 minutes in, taking advantage of its first corner kick of the match.
- The run of play continued in the midfield for most of the first half, with neither team registering a shot on goal until Akron's attempt to chip the goalie, from nearly 40 yards away, was easily collected by Eryk Dymora in the 42nd minute.
- The Blue Devils nearly equalized off the foot of Max Simpson, but his left-footed shot rolled just wide of the left post in the 48th minute.
- The Zips increased their lead in the 52nd minute after a rebound off the goalpost bounced directly to an Akron player in the six-yard box.
- Drew Kerr barely missed the frame off a free kick in the 77th minute as the Blue Devils continued to search for their first shot on goal. Leonardo D'Ambrosio narrowly missed the net in the 81st minute and Akron's defense remained stout for the final moments of the match.
