PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The men's and women's distance squads highlighted day one for the Duke track & field program at the 123rd annual Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
Sophomore Gabrielle Richichi and freshman Lindsay Billings competed in the women's 5,000m and each registered personal-best times. Richichi placed 26th in 17:12.46 while Billings participated in her first 5,000m and clocked in at 17:23.76 to take 38th.
On the men's side, Nikhil Pulimood stopped the clock in a personal-best 14:35.49 for a 35th-place finish. Like teammate Billings, rookie Tom Sullivan made his collegiate debut in the 5,000m and finished in a time of 15:14.37.
Stephen Garrett was the lone Blue Devil in the men's 10,000m this evening and posted a 20th-place finish in a time of 31:43.61.
Kim Hallowes, India Lowe, Brittany Aveni and Liz Lansing took the track for the women's distance medley relay and placed ninth in 11:22.81.
Sophomore Sydnei Murphy represented the Blue Devils in field events today in women's long jump and notched third place with a leap of 20-1.50 (6.13).
The Blue Devils will be back in action tomorrow evening for the women's and men's sprint medley relay championship at 6:21 and 6:50 p.m., respectively. Live coverage of tomorrow's events will begin on NBCSN at 5:30 p.m.
