ATLANTA – After Friday's game was suspended in the bottom of the seventh inning, Duke and No. 21 Georgia Tech returned to Russ Chandler Stadium to complete the contest Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils and the Yellow Jackets began the day tied 2-2 before Georgia Tech scored a lone run in the eighth to secure a 3-2 victory.
When play resumed Saturday, sophomore Ryan Day pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh for Duke (12-14, 2-8 ACC) to keep the game tied.
Georgia Tech (20-5, 6-4 ACC) was able to plate a lone run the following frame. Center fielder Carter Hall laced a double to right and advanced to third on Arden Pabst's fly ball to deep right field. A wild pitch then allowed Hall scamper home and score what proved to be the game-winning run.
Matthew Gorst walked pinch hitter Griffin Conine and hit Justin Bellinger – who homered Friday night – to put two aboard. Gorst worked out of the jam though and picked up his sixth save of the season.
Georgia Tech's Micah Carpenter (2-0) earned the win after tossing a scoreless top of the eighth. Duke's Jack Labosky (0-3) suffered the loss.
The two teams take the field at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 2 for the second game of the series.
