FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Duke Track and Field team had a strong first day in the Tyson Invitational on Friday in Fayetteville, Ark. At the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas, three Blue Devils qualified for the postseason. Results for the Tyson meet are available on www.flashresults.com.
Women's: Sophomore Emily Sherrard led a slew of five Blue Devil runners in the college mile run on Friday morning. Sherrard ran the race in a personal best of 5:00.07, which placed her 11th and qualified her for the ECAC's in her second event this season.
In the championship mile run, junior Molly Lehman ran a 4:51.34 for fourth place, qualifying for the ECAC's for the second time in the event this season. She came up just short of the NCAA provisional standard of 4:48.00.
Men's: On Friday afternoon, senior captain Matt Danforth had an outstanding performance in the 400m when he placed 63rd with a time of 48.90. That mark was a personal best, qualified him for the IC4A's in a second event for the season and earned him the No. 2 spot in the Duke records for the 400m.
The Duke Indoor Track and Field Team will go back to work on Saturday in Fayetteville with seven events still to compete in. The team's next meet is Feb. 22 and 23 at the Virginia Tech Elite in Blacksburg, Va.
