DURHAM, N.C. --- The second day of the Duke Invitational was filled with much success for the Blue Devils as five performers qualified for the postseason and four marks made the top five all-time records' lists. In addition, two Blue Devils won their events at the meet, bringing Duke's first place finishes to four for the weekend.
Women's: Sophomore Michelle Seibert ran a 2:10.88 in the 800 meters on Saturday afternoon, which won her the event for the second weekend in a row. It also qualified her for the ECAC Championships for the second time this season.
In the javelin, two Duke throwers had quality performances in the meet. Junior Daina Pucurs won the event with her throw of 162'-00” and qualified for the ECAC's and the NCAA East Regional. Freshman Kelsey Goodman placed herself fourth on the all-time Duke javelin list with her throw of 127'-10.”
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, sophomore Patricia Loughlin put in the fourth-fastest time in school history with her run of 11:11.15.
Men's: Freshman Michael Schallmo placed third in the discus with a 154'-08” throw on Saturday afternoon. He qualified for the IC4A Championships with that distance for the first time in his short career at Duke. That mark was also good for fifth place on the all-time Duke discus list.
In the 400 meters, junior Peter Lewellen finished fifth with his time of 48.35 seconds. That also placed him fourth in school history in the event.
Sophomore Kevin McDermott ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Saturday afternoon in 9:15.91. He qualified for the IC4A's with that time for the first time this season.
The Blue Devils next competition will be next Sat., April 14, when they go to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the one-day Carolina Fast Times meet.
