CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- The Blue Devil outdoor track and field team competed in the Carolina Fast Times meet this weekend in their final tune-up before the ACC Championships. The meet saw five Duke team members qualify for postseason meets including two making the cut for the first time this season.
Women's: Senior Kelly Reynolds competed in the hammer throw in the only event held on Friday at Chapel Hill. Reynolds threw the hammer 165'-10” which qualified her for the ECAC Championships and placed her second at the meet. She has qualified for the ECAC's now for three consecutive weekends in a row.
In the high jump, senior Debra Vento finished second and qualified for the ECAC's and the NCAA East Regional with her jump of 5'-08.75.” Vento qualified for both of those meets for the fourth straight weekend.
Men's: Although he fell short of qualifying for the postseason, junior Robert Weinstein won the javelin event at the Fast Times with his toss of 179'-11.”
Senior Jonathan Fay qualified for the IC4A Championships and the NCAA East Regional on Saturday morning for the third time this season in the pole vault. Fay's vault of 15'-7.0” also was good for a first place finish at the meet.
The first of two first-time qualifiers on Saturday for Duke was sophomore Chris Rowland in the 800 meters. Rowland went under the IC4A-qualifying time with his run of 1:52.11 which also placed him fifth for the meet.
The final highlight of the day was senior Daniel King in the 200 meter dash. His personal-best time of 21.73 also qualified him for the IC4A's for the first time this season. King finished sixth at the meet.
A Look Ahead: Duke will compete in the ACC Championships from April 19-21 in College Park, Md., on the campus of the University of Maryland.
