PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --- The Duke men's and women's outdoor track and field teams completed the second day at the historic Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Friday. The Blue Devils registered five postseason qualifiers, three top-five finishes and three Duke all-time top-five performances.
Women's: The women's 4x1500 meter relay of freshman Kate Van Buskirk, senior Elizabeth Wort, freshman Emily Sherrard and sophomore Maddie McKeever placed fifth on Friday afternoon at the Penn Relays. Their time of 17:48.30 was also good for the second-fastest time in school history.
Senior Debra Vento finished second in the high jump with her height of 5'-10.50.” Vento qualified for the NCAA East Regional and the ECAC Championships for the sixth consecutive week in the outdoor season.
Men's: The men got off to a good start on Friday morning in the pole vault with junior Ian Cassidy and senior Jonathan Fay. Cassidy won the event at the Penn Relays with his vault of 16'-10.75", which was also the second-best mark in Duke history and qualified him for the NCAA East Regional and IC4A Championships for the second time in as many tries this season. Fay's vault of 15'-07.0” qualified him for the IC4A's for the fifth time this year and earned him eighth place in Philadelphia.
On Friday afternoon freshman Michael Schallmo continued his success in his first season when he threw the discus 160'-0,” placing eighth in the event. Schallmo also qualified for the IC4A's for the third time this season.
Junior Peter Lewellen, junior Matt Danforth, sophomore Nick Trombold and senior Daniel King ran a 3:14.75 and finished eighth in the 4x400 relay. That time qualified the quartet for the IC4A's, making them the third Duke 4x400 relay team to do that this year.
The men's distance medley relay team of King, senior Brett Morrell, junior Peter Lewellen and sophomore Chris Rowland ran the fourth-fastest time in school history with their 3:27.37 clip.

A Look Ahead: Events at the Penn Relays will conclude on Saturday with events running from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. Duke has three relay teams left to compete.
