BOSTON, Mass. --- Duke women's team competed in the ECAC Championships on Saturday while the men were across town in the IC4A Championships. Senior Sally Meyerhoff won the 5000 meters at the ECAC's and six individuals qualified for the finals on Sunday in their events at both meets for the Blue Devils.
Women's: In the 1000 meter trials, freshman Emily Sherrard and sophomore Jessica Davlin made the Sunday finals. Sherrard ran the sixth-best time in the preliminaries with a 2:53.83 run and Davlin went 2:55.40 for the eighth-fastest mark.
The Duke 4x800 meter relay team of senior Lindsay Owen, sophomore Libby Jenke, freshman Christen Harsha and sophomore Caitlin Klaas ran the best time in the trials at 9:03.46. That was also good for the fourth-fastest 4x800m relay in school history.
In the women's 5000 meters, Meyerhoff won the event at the ECAC's with a time of 16:11.57. That provisionally-qualified her for the NCAA Championships next weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. Meyerhoff also claimed the second-best 5000m indoor time ever at Duke.
Men's: Senior Daniel King had the most impressive day for the Duke men on Saturday at the IC4A's. He placed seventh in the 400 meter dash and eighth in the 200 meter dash with times of 47.88 and 21.63, respectively. King will run in the finals on Sunday in both events. The 200m run gave him the Duke indoor record in that event.
In the 500 meters, junior Peter Lewellen made the finals with his run of 1:03.52. That was the eighth-fastest time of the day in the preliminaries.
Junior John Brockardt ran a personal best 2:26.61 in the 1000 meters, which was the fourth-fastest mark in school history. He placed eighth in the trials at the IC4A's and will run in the finals on Sunday.
Duke's 4x800 relay of freshman Tradelle Ward, sophomore Chris Rowland, freshman Sam Bowler and freshman Dan McManamon placed third and made the finals with their 7:40.15 run. McManamon's 800m split of 1:51.50 was the fastest of the day at the meet.
In the 4x400 relay trials, Lewellen, sophomore Nick Trombold, senior Brett Morrell and junior Matt Danforth went 3:16.07. That put them in the finals with the eighth-fastest time on the day and gave them the second-best 4x400m relay in Duke indoor history.
Day Two: Competition will resume Sunday in Boston with 12 individuals and three relay teams still set to compete in both meets.
