BOSTON, Mass. --- The indoor track and field team wrapped up its weekend post-season meets on Sunday, with the women at the ECAC Championships and the men at the IC4A Championships, both in Boston, Mass. The women placed fourth with 39.5 points on the strength of first place finishes by senior Sally Meyerhoff in the 5000 meters, junior Lara Jones in the pole vault, and the 4x800 meter relay team. The men placed 12th with 19 points and were led by junior Tyler Clarke's win in the heptathlon and senior Daniel King's fourth place finish in the 400 meters.
Women's: In the 1000 meter finals, sophomore Jessica Davlin and freshman Emily Sherrard finished fourth and seventh, respectively, to earn Duke a total of seven points. Davlin went the distance in 2:55.18 and Sherrard ran it in 2:56.75.
The Duke 4x800 meter relay team of senior Lindsay Owen, sophomore Libby Jenke, freshman Christen Harsha and sophomore Caitlin Klaas dropped seven seconds off of their preliminary time from Saturday in recording an 8:56.43 mark. That was good for first place at the ECAC's and the third-fastest indoor 4x800 meter relay in school history. Duke earned 10 team points from the win.
In the pole vault, Jones captured the ECAC title with a height of 12'-07.50”. That was Jones' best vault of the indoor season and gained ten points towards the Blue Devils' overall total.
Men's: King continued his weekend success on Sunday at the IC4A's, accounting for seven team points. King placed fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.85 seconds and his time 21.69 seconds was good for ninth place in the 200 meters. He also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 meter relay team that placed seventh with a Duke record time of 3:13.17. Junior Peter Lewellen, sophomore Nick Trombold and junior Matt Danforth were on that record-setting team with King. King ran a total of five races throughout the weekend, setting two school records and running faster times in all of his events than any other Duke runner had ever run at those distances.
Junior John Brockardt ran a 2:29.55 in the 1000 meters, which was good for an eighth place finish and one team point for Duke on Sunday at the IC4A's.
Duke's 4x800 relay of sophomore Chris Rowland, junior Chris Spooner, freshman Sam Bowler and freshman Dan McManamon placed eighth with their time of 7:53.44. That also earned the Blue Devils one team point toward their total for the weekend.
One of the highlights of the meet was Clarke in the heptathlon. He finished with a total of 4985 points and came all the way from eighth place on Saturday to take the title on Sunday. The heptathlon consists of the 55 meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 55 meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000 meter run.
