FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- Seven Duke women competed in three events at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday night in Fayetteville, Ark. Sophomore Maddie McKeever and senior Sally Meyerhoff earned All-America honors for their efforts in the 5000 meters and senior Shannon Rowbury ran the fastest preliminary mile time at the meet and qualified for the finals on Saturday night.
Rowbury was the first Blue Devil to compete on the evening, as she ran the mile in 4:41.96. That was the second-fastest Duke mile this season and the best trial time at the NCAA's on Friday night. Rowbury holds the best performance this season and the Duke record with her 4:34.94 mark on Feb. 9 at the Tyson Invitational, which was also in Fayetteville.
In the 5000 meter finals, McKeever ran a 16:10.40 and placed ninth and Meyerhoff went 16:14.21 and finished 10th. With three foreign runners in the top eight, both McKeever and Meyerhoff automatically were named All-America award winners. McKeever's time was also the second-best in school history.
Freshman Kate Van Buskirk, sophomore Libby Jenke, sophomore Michelle Seibert and senior Elizabeth Wort competed in the distance medley relay on Friday night. They ran the event in 11:29.83, which was good for 12th place at the meet.
