WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Duke Outdoor Track and Field team completed its opening weekend at the Wake Forest Open on Saturday. All told, seven Blue Devils qualified for the postseason throughout the weekend and two Duke records were broken.
Women's: One day after nailing the fourth-best shot put in Duke history, freshman Alexa Revord set the Duke record in the women's discus with a throw of 152-09, good for a fourth place finish at the meet. She shattered the previous Duke record by over 10 feet and qualified herself for the ECAC Championships which will take place May 11-13 in Princeton, N.J.
Senior Debra Vento won the Wake Forest Open in the high jump on Saturday with a height of 5'-11.25.” Vento qualified herself for the NCAA East Regional from May 25-26 in Gainesville, Fla. She also set the record for the high jump at Wake Forest's Kentner Stadium with her performance.
Men's: Senior Jonathan Fay qualified himself for the IC4A Championships with his pole vault of 15'-11.0” on Saturday afternoon. Fay placed seventh in Winston-Salem. The IC4A's will be held in Princeton, N.J. on the same weekend as the women's ECAC's (May 11-13).
Duke will travel to two meets next weekend, March 30-31: the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif., and the UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Blue Devils will host two meets during the outdoor season: the Duke Invitational on Apr. 6-7 and the Duke Twilight on May 6, with both being held at Wallace Wade Stadium.
