Durham, N.C.
- Duke Director of Track and Field Norm Ogilvie announced today the hiring of Mason Cathey to his staff as an assistant coach.
Mason's primary responsibilities will be working with the women's middle-distance and distance runners during the track and field season, and she will work directly with Head Women's Cross-Country Coach Kevin Jermyn during the fall cross country season. Mason is a December 2004 graduate of the University of Florida with a BS in Exercise and Sport Science, and expects to complete her MS, also from Florida, in August of 2006. She has most recently spent the summer as an intern at the offices of USATF in Indianapolis, the governing body for the sport of track and field in the United States
"Mason brings a lot to the table, and will be a great addition to our staff," said Coach Ogilvie. "She was a solid competitor for Florida as an undergraduate and has the experience of being on two SEC Championship track and field teams, so in addition to her outstanding background in the sport sciences, she also is a winner. As a Footlocker finalist in high school, she also knows the demands placed on high school athletes in the recruiting process and we expect that she will be an excellent recruiter for Duke. We as a staff are very excited to welcome her to Durham."
