BOSTON - Junior Debra Vento tied her season best in the high jump, clearing 5-11.25 to successfully defend her ECAC championship title at the annual ECAC Championships in Boston Saturday. The Duke track and field squads qualified two relays and two runners for Sunday's ECAC/IC4A finals, while sophomore Lara Jones took fourth in the pole vault finals, tying her indoor career best with a mark of 12-7.5.
At the women's ECAC Championships, junior Lindsay Owen posted a Duke indoor record in the 500m, advancing to the finals by crossing the line in 1:14.41. Freshman Molly Lehman ran the fastest 1,000m time in the preliminary round with Duke's best mark of the season -- 2:53.18. The foursome of Allison Stankavage, Caitlin Klaas, Jessica Davlin and Anna Farias-Eisner clocked 9:11.30, a season best for Duke, in the 4x800m relay to move on to Sunday's finals.
With 15 points after the first day of competition, Duke's women sit in third place behind Northeastern (22) and Yale (19).
At the men's IC4A Championships, sophomore Peter Lewellen lowered his own school record in the 500m for the second time this season, finishing in 1:03.42 to qualify for the finals. The time was just under the record of 1:03.46 he set at the Terrier Classic at the end of January.
The men's distance medley relay team of Devin McDaniel, Ade Wise, Chris Spooner and Kevin McDermott will also make an appearance in the finals Sunday after posting Duke's best time of the season -- 10:07.39. Nick Trombold, Daniel King, Matt Danforth and Brett Morrell ran the second-fastest 4x400m relay of the season in 3:16.25, just under Duke's record-setting 3:16.17 at the Tyson Invitational.
Duke wraps up competition at the ECAC/IC4A Championships Sunday with the women performing a the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston and the men at Boston University's Track and Field Pavilion. Results will be posted on www.ecac.org following the competition Sunday.
