TERRE HAUTE, IND. - The 12th-ranked Duke women's cross country team took 10th place at the 2006 NCAA Championships on Monday in Terre Haute, Ind. Senior Emily McCabe and sophomore Maddie McKeever earned All-America honors for their top-20 finishes.
The Blue Devil women tallied 320 points in Monday's championship race, and were led by McCabe and McKeever who posted times of 21:09 and 21:10 to place 14th and 17th, respectively. Also scoring for Duke, were senior Laura Stanley (79th), freshman Kate Van Buskirk (130th) and Elle Pishny (166th).
Winning the women's competition, was Stanford, which tallied 195 points, followed by Colorado in second place with 223 points, Michigan in third place with 233 points, Wisconsin in fourth place with 262 points and Arkansas in fifth place with 286 points. The Blue Devils were just 20 points out of sixth place.
The individual champion of the women's championship race was Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech, who crossed the finish line in 20.11.10.
McCabe and McKeever received automatic All-America recognition for their finishes in the championship race, as McCabe was named as an All-America in her only season as a Blue Devil. The accolade marks the first of its kind of McKeever's career.
