Blue Devil Diamond Notes
* Junior infielder Adam Murray has been the model of consistency for Duke this season. He has played every inning of every game, seeing significant time at third base, shortstop and second base and has emerged as the perfect two-hole hitter. He has kept his batting average high all season and currently sits at .340, second on the team. He leads the team with 10 multiple-hit games, including two four-hit performances. He also leads the team with an on-base percentage of .460, leading the team in walks (16) and hit-by-pitches (6).
* The Blue Devils hope to use sophomore reliever Tony Bajoczky against his hometown team this weekend. The righy from Tallahassee looks to be settling in as Duke's closer. He threw two perfect innings of relief on Saturday against Wright State, striking out four. The next day, he tossed a perfect ninth, needing only eight pitches. In the series finale, Bajoczky picked up the save, again working the ninth inning.
* Ten Blue Devils have made their collegiate debuts in 2005. On Feb. 5 against N.C. A&T, freshmen Brett Bartles and Kyle Kreick each debuted, starting at shortstop and third base, respectively. Classmate Jimmy Gallagher also started, playing first base. On Feb. 6, Cody Wheeler started in right field, Ron Causey started at catcher and Josh Albert made a pinch-hitting appearance. On Feb. 11 against UMES, Dale Longfellow threw a scoreless eighth inning. On Feb. 13, Jonathan Nicolla got the start in the DH spot. On Feb. 26, Ryan Perry threw one-third of an inning. On March 6, catcher Brett Smith got the start against Georgia Tech.
