RALEIGH, N.C. ? The Duke volleyball team posted their tenth straight win over N.C. State, sweeping the Wolfpack, 3-0 (30-23, 30-25, 30-16), on Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum. The Blue Devils improve to 16-7 overall and 10-5 in the ACC, while N.C. State falls to 7-17 overall and 1-15 in the conference.
Duke went on a 10-2 run to start the match and used a four-point run, capped off by a kill from senior Sarah Salem, to win the opening game, 30-23. The Blue Devils were led by senior Tiffany Perry, who had five kills in game one. The Duke defense held N.C. Sate to a .098 hitting percentage in the opening frame.
With game two tied at 19-19, the Blue Devils went on a 7-1 run to take a 26-20 lead. The Wolfpack then scored three straight points before Duke closed out the frame with a 4-2 run, capped off by a kill from sophomore Ali Hausfeld, to win, 30-25. Freshman Jourdan Norman led the Blue Devils with seven kills in the second game.
In the third game, the Blue Devils used two five-point runs to close out the match, 30-16. Sophomore Daina Pucurs, who had a career-high 10 assists in game three, paced the Duke attack that hit a game-best .295. The Blue Devil defense held the Wolfpack to a -.022 hitting percentage in the final frame.
Norman recorded her third career double-double, posting a match-high 14 kills to go along with 10 digs. Perry registered eight kills, Salem and junior Tealle Hunkus had seven kills each and Hausfeld added six kills. Hausfeld also had a match-high 29 assists in the win.
Hunkus anchored the Duke defense with a match-high 17 digs, sophomore Jenny Shull posted 15 digs and sophomore Carrie DeMange added 11 digs against the Wolfpack.
The Blue Devils will be back in Cameron Indoor Stadium next weekend as they play host to Maryland (24-1, 15-1 ACC) on Friday night and Boston College (7-18, 2-14 ACC) on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. Duke defeated Boston College, 3-1, on Oct. 14 in Chestnut Hill, Mass., before falling, 3-0, to league-leading Maryland two days later in College Park.
