Durham, N.C. - In front of a raucus crowd on Friday night, No. 10 Duke scored five goals in the first half to cruise past No. 11 N.C. State, 6-0, in an ACC game at Koskinen Stadium.
The Blue Devils tallied two of their five first half goals in the opening ten minutes. At the 7:20 mark Tomek Charowski sent a ball in to the middle of the field where Blake Camp had an open look and sent it in to the bottom left corner of the net for his fifth goal of the season. Less than a minute later, Camp found Danny Kramer open on the left side of the net and Kramer sent it to the opposite corner to put Duke ahead 2-0 eight minutes in to the contest.
In the 14th minute, a foul was called on N.C. State inside the goal box giving the Blue Devils a penalty kick opportunity. Chris Loftus took his first career penalty kick and sent it home for his team-high ninth goal of the season. Duke continued to pour it on when in the 21st minute Kramer had a shot saved but took advantage of a second chance from a rebound for his second goal of the game and fourth of the season. In the 35th minute, Zach Pope sent a shot in from 25 yards out that hit the crossbar, but as the ball came off Pavelid Castaneda made a diving header that sent the ball to the back of the net to give Duke a 5-0 lead at halftime. The goal was Castaneda's first career score.
Michael Videira added a goal in the 64th minute to give the Blue Devils a 6-0 victory. Camp and Loftus both finished the game with a goal and an assist while Tomek Charowski and Mike Grella each tallied two assists in the game. Justin Papadakis earned his fourth shutout of the year with one save in the game. Although N.C. State held an 18-17 advantage in total shots they only had one shot on goal while Duke put eight shots on target.
The win moves Duke to 9-3-1 on the year and 3-2-1 in the ACC. The Wolfpack fall to 9-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the conference. The Blue Devils will be back at home on Wednesday when they host Stony Brook at 7 p.m.
