Jim Freeman joined the Duke volleyball staff as a volunteer assistant coach in August of 2010. Freeman assists with the analysis of the team and opponents and works primarily with Duke's passers, defensive players and outside hitters.
Formerly the head volleyball coach and Assistant Director of Athletics at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Durham, N.C., from 1991-2010, Freeman has spent 19 years in the high school volleyball coaching ranks. Freeman led Cardinal Gibbons to 10 North Carolina State Championships and 12 conference titles. His career record at Cardinal Gibbons stands at 426-117 (.785), a mark that also includes 12 consecutive appearances in the North Carolina State Championship match.
Freeman served a variety of roles at Cardinal Gibbons High School, including head volleyball coach, Assistant Director of Athletics and physical education and weightlifting teacher. He also served as the co-director of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association volleyball state championships from 2006-09 and was the director of the Cardinal Gibbons volleyball camps from 1996-2009. Freeman has also coached the Triangle Volleyball Club's U-14 and U-17 teams, leading both squads to the USA Junior Olympic National Championships in 2005, 2007 and 2008.
A 1985 magna cum laude graduate of Liberty University, Freeman holds a degree in Physical Education.
