Jeremy Garcia joined the Blue Devils' staff in May of 2022 as an assistant coach. Garcia brings a wealth experience from two nationally-recognized Power 5 volleyball programs in the Big Ten and the Big 12, having served at Penn State and Texas.
Since the spring 2022 semester, Garcia was on staff with the volleyball program at Texas as the volunteer assistant coach. During off-season training, Garcia worked closely with the setter and middle blocker positions both in practice and in competition. He also spent significant time helping the staff prepare for and navigate through the recruiting cycle for the following months, building content and organizing information critical to executing the program’s strategy.
Previously, Garcia held the volunteer assistant coach position for Penn State women’s volleyball and legendary Hall of Fame Coach Russ Rose. In his role from December of 2020 until December of 2021, Garcia was responsible for team and individual training across multiple positions, with a focus on the setters and defensive specialists. He also made contributions to opponent preparation by developing scouting reports and handling video analysis.
Working closely with Coach Rose and the offense for the spring 2021 and fall 2021 seasons, Garcia helped guide Gabby Blossom to five Big Ten Conference setter of the week awards. His work with the offense contributed to the Nittany Lions ranking near the top of the conference in hitting percentage in both seasons.
Taking more responsibility with the defensive specialists in the fall 2021 season, Garcia worked closely with libero Jenna Hampton as she earned Second Team All-Big Ten as well as Second Team AVCA All-Northeast Region.
Garcia began his career in August 2017, while an undergraduate student at Texas, assisting head coach Jerritt Elliott’s nationally-ranked program in a variety of ways. He was responsible for all practice and in-game statistical analysis, video coordination and technology operations. Garcia also spent significant time in the practice gym initiating and leading drills, as well as being available for individual sessions when needed. For the Fall 2020 season, Garcia transitioned into the volunteer assistant coach role for a portion of the year.
During his time at Texas, Garcia was a part of the Longhorns’ dominant run through the Big 12, a dominance that included a 61-3 conference record and four conference championships. In those years, Texas volleyball also experienced multiple trips to the NCAA Tournament, reaching a Regional Semifinal and two Regional Finals.
While in Austin, Garcia also spent two seasons coaching with Austin Juniors Volleyball, one of the premier junior programs in the country. Coaching in both the boys’ and girls’ programs, his teams compiled an impressive collection of accomplishments. On staff of five different teams that earned bids to the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships in those two seasons, Garcia was a part of three Open division qualifications, one bronze medal and two top-five finishes at the sport’s concluding event.
Garcia, a native of Austin, Texas who now resides in Durham, earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the prestigious McCombs School of Business in the fall of 2020.
