April Yantis begins her second season at Duke as an assistant volleyball coach. She arrived at Duke in the fall of 1999 after spending the 1998 season as an assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania.
At Penn, Yantis assisted with the development of practice schedules, match strategy and opponent scouting. Yantis also spent that year as head coach of the Golden Eagles Volleyball Club in Philadephia, Pa.
A four-year standout and 1998 graduate of Drexel University, Yantis earned numerous honors during her playing days. A three-time first-team All-Conference selection for the Dragons, Yantis earned conference player of the week honors an impressive 10 times.
As a freshman, Yantis earned conference rookie of the week honors three times and was a conference first-team All-Tournament selection.
From her sophomore to senior seasons, Yantis earned seven all-tournament accolades and was named the Drexel team most valuable player in each of those years.
Twice during her Drexel career, Yantis recorded 30 kills in a match. She still stands as the school recordholder in kills (1,862) and digs (1,481) and is second in career games played. She was awarded the Mary Semanik Award as Drexels most outstanding female athlete.
