Upcoming Event: Women's Basketball versus Countdown to Craziness on October 3, 2025 at 7 p.m.

Roderick (R.J.) Hunter joined the Duke Athletics staff prior to the 2017-18 basketball season, and was named the Assistant Director of Operations and Video Analyst for the men's basketball program in October 2019. He was promoted on the men's basketball staff to Director of Operations prior to the 2021-22 season.
He spent two seasons with the Duke women's basketball program as the Director of Information Technology from 2017-19 before his appointment to the men's staff.
Hunter's current duties as Director of Operations include management of the team's daily schedule, management of player schedules, oversight of the team's student manager program and assisting with all team logistics and travel. In his first two seasons on staff, he assisted both the program's Video Coordinator and Director of Operations in daily team needs relating to video, scouting and logistics. Hunter aided in film breakdown, created videos for player development and was involved with all team operations. He served in a similar capacity with the women's basketball program.
In his time with Duke men's basketball, the program has captured an ACC Tournament title in 2023, an ACC regular-season title in 2022 and reached the Final Four that same season.
Hunter came to Duke from University of the Pacific, where was Video Coordinator for women's basketball from 2015-17 . His responsibilities included scouting film breakdown for the assistant coaches and staff, creating shot location charts for player analysis, designing an output to chart the correlation between wins and certain statistics, along with other duties relating to statistics and video. He began his collegiate basketball career with the University of San Francisco women’s basketball team as the Assistant Video Coordinator for the 2014-15 season.
In the spring of 2013, Hunter served as an assistant coach for AAU Boys Basketball Team USA where he was responsible for player development of guards, statistics reporting and assisting with team administrative duties.
A graduate of the University of Arkansas in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation & Sport Management and a minor in Communication, the Little Rock, Ark., native earned his Master’s Degree in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco in 2015.
