Block seemed to have finally found his event outdoors in 2002 when he recorded back-to-back IC4A qualifying times in the steeplechase with marks of 9:14.68 at the Raleigh Relays and 9:13.23 at the Duke Invitational a week later, where he placed third. Block recorded the four fastest Duke steeple times of the season. Block also came close to scoring in the ACC 5,000-meters, clocking 14:58.45 off a steeple/5K double.Indoors Block ran 4:15.80 for the mile as a junior and was a member of the 2000 ACC Championship team in cross-country, also as a junior. Block red-shirted in cross-country in 2001 and will play a major role as a fifth-year senior for the Blue Devils in the fall of 2002.
