Fowler red-shirted the 2001 outdoor season after an indoor campaign in which he qualified for the 800-meters at the IC4A’s and competed in the 4x800-meter relay at the season ending meet. That relay team clocked 7:39.49, which ranks No. 5 on the all-time list at Duke. As a freshman, Fowler was All-East on the indoor distance medley relay team and also was a member of the outdoor 4x800-meter relay team, which currently ranks No. 5 all-time.
