Upcoming Event: Track & Field versus ACC Indoor Championships on February 26, 2026

The 2000 ACC 1,500-meter champion and a member of the 2000 ACC Men’s Cross Country Championship team, the highlight of Fitzgibbon’s senior year in cross country was his seventh place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional, which helped advance Duke to the NCAA Championships. Fitzgibbon was also All-ACC in cross-country for the first time ever during his senior campaign.
In 2002, Fitzgibbon will have indoor and outdoor eligibility for the Blue Devils, but his cross-country career has concluded. In 2001, he altered the all-time list indoors at 3,000-meters (his 8:25.37 ranks No. 3 all-time at Duke) and he ran the season’s fastest mile for Duke with a 4:10.92 time. Outdoors, he had the season’s best time in the 1,500-meters before his season was cut short by injury. In all, Fitzgibbon has earned All-East honors four different times and has been All-ACC twice. He was also named the Duke Men’s Track and Field MVP for 2000.
