Heather Sample joined the Duke Athletics staff in January of 2006 with the Iron Dukes as the Gift Records Coordinator and later the Gift Records Specialist, where she was responsible for gift receipt, gift entry, reconciliation with the office of Alumni and Development Records, liaison with multiple departments for internal payment, gift acknowledgment, gift reporting, record updates, etc. for the Iron Dukes Annual Fund and eventually the Varsity Club as well.

Currently, Sample serves as the Iron Dukes Annual Fund Program Coordinator where she provides frontline customer service and manages special projects for Iron Dukes leadership. Sample serves on the Athletics Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging committee (DEIB) and is a member of the DEIB Belonging subcommittee.

A native of Northwestern PA, Sample worked for IBM until 2003 when she transitioned to Duke University as a Corporate Payroll Specialist
